Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about LuckyChunk server hosting.

What is LuckyChunk

LuckyChunk gives you a private Minecraft server for you and your friends. You pick a Minecraft version, pay $20/month, and get a server address to share. Your friends paste it into their multiplayer menu and they're in. No port forwarding, no downloading server files, no figuring out how hosting works. If you want to see how LuckyChunk compares to other ways of playing together, check out our guide on How to Play Minecraft with Friends.

How much does LuckyChunk cost?

$20 a month. That's it. You get your own server, up to 20 players, and a management panel. There's only one plan - we don't do the whole "pick your RAM tier" thing that other hosts do. You're not going to hit a checkout page and find out you need to pay extra for backups or whatever. $20/month, everything included.

How many friends can play on my LuckyChunk server

Up to 20 at the same time. For most friend groups that's way more than you'll ever need. Just share the server address and anyone with it can join. If you want to lock it down so randoms can't get in, you can turn on a whitelist from the management panel.

Do I need any technical knowledge to use LuckyChunk?

Nope. If you can buy something online, you can set up a LuckyChunk server. You pick a version, pay, and you've got a server address to share. The management panel is just buttons — change the version, add someone to the whitelist, reset the world. No terminal, no config files. For how your friends actually connect once you have the address, see our guide on How to Join a Minecraft Server.

Can I manage my server?

Yeah. You get a management panel where you can whitelist players, ban people, switch Minecraft versions, or reset the world. It's pretty straightforward — just click the thing you want to do. No terminal commands or config files involved.

What Minecraft versions does LuckyChunk support?

We support Minecraft Java Edition. You pick your version when you create the server, and you can switch anytime from the management panel. Just know that switching versions means starting a new world - you can't bring a 1.21 world back to 1.12.2. Your friends will need to be on the same version to connect (they can change it in the Minecraft Launcher under Installations). More on that in our guide on How to Join a Minecraft Server.

Can I install mods or plugins?

No, LuckyChunk is vanilla only. No mods, no plugins. The upside is that your friends don't have to install anything - they just open regular Minecraft and connect. No mod loader, no matching mod versions, no "why is my game crashing" troubleshooting. If you need mods, you'd want a traditional hosting service where you manage the server yourself.

How do my friends join my LuckyChunk server?

You get a server address when you create your server. Send it to your friends. They open Minecraft, go to Multiplayer, click Add Server, paste the address, and they're in. They don't need to make an account on our site or install anything. If the server happens to be asleep, it'll start up on its own in about 20 seconds. Full walkthrough with screenshots in our How to Join a Minecraft Server guide.

How long does it take to set up a LuckyChunk server?

Less than a minute. You pick a version, pay, and your server address is ready to share. There's no setup wizard, no waiting around for things to install. You could literally send the address to your group chat before they finish loading Minecraft.
